Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The Civil Service is one of the largest employers in the UK, with over 481,000 colleagues across the UK and here at the Cabinet Office Digital, we are dedicated to ensuring we reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and committed to making the Civil Service the most inclusive employer.

We believe that every voice matters and that different perspectives fuel our success. That’s why we empower all colleagues to champion DEI and actively contribute to achieving our departmental goals.

Learning and development are key. We offer a diverse range of resources and training programs to help everyone broaden their understanding of DEI concepts and build inclusive behaviors. But knowledge isn’t enough. We champion action. That’s where our vibrant employee-led networks come in, such as our Women in Digital group for example. These groups, act as safe spaces for sharing experiences, promoting best practices, and driving direct impact.

We are proud to be part of the Disability Confident Scheme and The Great Place to Work for Veterans scheme.

The Civil Service Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2022 -2025

The Civil Service Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2022 maintains our focus on mainstreaming the delivery of inclusion, and achieving our key priorities as outlined in the Declaration on Government Reform.

We will continue to build a more inclusive Civil Service going further than the current Equality Act provisions by building on and expanding a previous focus on Protected Characteristics to deliver for all of our people.

Incorporating a broader definition of diversity (such as socioeconomic, work experience and geographic backgrounds) and embedding activity in our strategic priorities will enable the successful delivery of our corporate objectives.

This strategy is essential to deliver on our shared ambition of A Modern Civil Service where our values are to serve with integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality; driving our vision to be a skilled, innovative and ambitious Civil Service equipped for the future.
